My Baby is a One-Year-Old!!!

Happy Birthday Jack!! (Yesterday). Goodbye formula and bottles, hello milk and peanut butter. (I've been introducing peanut butter for about a month now and he seems to be just as non-allergic as my girls are, thank goodness!) I skipped class for Ellie's birthday (also on a Tuesday) so the family had to wait until I got home to eat and do presents for Jack, but he didn't seem to mind. Thank you to all of you who sent cards!!!

John made an awesome ragu (meat sauce) and we had French bread and pasta. Jack appeared to really enjoy his meal and downed quite a bit of it. Then we cleaned up and I let him go at his cake and ice cream. I was thinking back about how the girls acted during their first birthdays and I don't remember either giving them a utensil or them using one. I gave one to Jack and he tried to use his spoon for quite a while before he gave up and went at it with his hands. Also, I remembered that Ellie and Arwen both had chocolate cake for their first birthdays, as well. So, I guess it's my personal preference being enforced on a kid who either doesn't care (hey, sugar is sugar!) or can't express preference for a different choice! On a related note, I weighed him last night with just a diaper on and he weighs 25 pounds!!

I did get a little emotional during dinner as it hit me just how much I love him and what an important part of our family he is. I am so thankful for our sweet baby boy!

Here are some of the pictures that John and I took:

This was his favorite toy and my normally camera-friendly baby, would not smile for me because he was so intensely focused on this music-maker.

Jack really enjoyed the frosting stuck to the bottom of his candle. You can see that he's really tired. It was about nine o'clock at night by the time we got to cake!
This is "the damage" from allowing him to feed himself his cake, but I think he enjoyed his birthday, don't you?

I love you, Jack.

So cute. It makes me excited for our baby Jack to turn one next week. I did not realize they were so close in age. Just 8 days apart.
