John made an awesome ragu (meat sauce) and we had French bread and pasta. Jack appeared to really enjoy his meal and downed quite a bit of it. Then we cleaned up and I let him go at his cake and ice cream. I was thinking back about how the girls acted during their first birthdays and I don't remember either giving them a utensil or them using one. I gave one to Jack and he tried to use his spoon for quite a while before he gave up and went at it with his hands. Also, I remembered that Ellie and Arwen both had chocolate cake for their first birthdays, as well. So, I guess it's my personal preference being enforced on a kid who either doesn't care (hey, sugar is sugar!) or can't express preference for a different choice! On a related note, I weighed him last night with just a diaper on and he weighs 25 pounds!!
I did get a little emotional during dinner as it hit me just how much I love him and what an important part of our family he is. I am so thankful for our sweet baby boy!
Here are some of the pictures that John and I took:
This was his favorite toy and my normally camera-friendly baby, would not smile for me because he was so intensely focused on this music-maker.
I love you, Jack.

So cute. It makes me excited for our baby Jack to turn one next week. I did not realize they were so close in age. Just 8 days apart.
