Beginning at the end of September we will be cutting back on a number of our superfluous expenses. Among them are the following:
Extended Cable ($61/mo)
HD Cable ($7/mo)
Comcast High Speed internet ($45/mo)
Data cell phone internet ($20/mo)
Text messaging ($5/mo)
Blockbuster Subscription ($17/mo)
The reason for this big change is three-fold: We can't afford it all anymore, the prophets have told us to live within our means, and some of it will be beneficial to our families general unity and peace of mind.
We have decided to sacrifice some of these things all together and seriously cut back on other things. We will be trading our Extended and HD cable package for Basic Cable ($10/mo), the only reason we're keeping any cable is because of Ducks football; they mostly play on the local networks anyway.
Because Sarah is a student we sort of require the internet so we are trading our Comcast internet for a slower, but cheaper, internet provider, ClearWire ($25/mo). Everything else mentioned above is gone.
Let us know what you think. We are going to be going through withdrawals, but we feel this is better for our family and our finances. Wish us luck.

Sarah,
I am impressed by your budgeting skills. We've had to cut back too and it is surprisingly easy.
Oh wait, we live with my parents and use their high speed internet, their cable, their dvr, and they take us out to eat.
Hmm...well, we don't have to pay for it. We are just thankful that we can live here rent free.
We are also on the great program called WIC. They give you free milk, cheese, juice, cereal and peanut butter. I found out about it when most of my ward is in the program. That should tell you how poor the people are in the ward. Check if out...if you want too but I think it is great. I love going to the grocery store and leaving with free milk.
Good luck with it. I wish I knew you had texting messaging before you canceled it. I am a text whore!!!
Love Laura
Hey,
You can do it! Besides, what's on tv that is actually good anyway?
Way to go man, wise man says never pay full price for late pizza...and live the way no one wants to now, so you can live like no one can later!!
We're totally behind you all the way. We recently tried to get rid of cable all together, but that lasted about two months before we reverted back to just basic instead of the extended/HD/DVR. All good things in moderation, I suppose. Way to go!
Props to you guys. Cutting back is definitely not easy but you can do it!
Thanks for all your support! It turns out we're also going to be cutting WAY back on our car's mileage. But, as you all know, since we're trying to get in shape anyway, it will work to our advantage to walk or bike to Wal-Mart!
You guys will be fine. We don't have cable at all...Dave is lucky that most of the big College games are on the major stations. Or, he has friends. It is nice to save money that's for sure.
YOU GO GIRL! that is so awesome. the pioneers would be SO proud! :)
