Just Like the Movies (AAF)

Do you know those movies where you know something is going to go wrong and you know what mistakes the protagonist made that could come back to haunt them? This morning I was the protagonist. John bade me farewell at 7:34 AM. Arwen's bus stops in front of our house around 8:15. I went back to sleep. When next I awoke it was 8:14. I checked out the window to see if the little girl across the street was still waiting and found that she was. I ran downstairs, deciding that I would tell one of the kids or adults to tell the bus driver that I would drive Arwen to school today. In the interest of time, I decided to forgo shoes. I walked out the front door and from behind me heard it click shut. Oh no, the door's locked! I quickly turned back around to confirm my suspicions and found the door, indeed, locked. I quickly walked out to where all the other little kids were waiting and told my neighbor what to tell the bus driver and added, "and I'm locked out of my house." He got his key, just in the off-shot that because we're in a duplex the keys to our house would be the same. Of course, they weren't and I thanked him and told him that I thought a back window to the house was open. Gritting my teeth and my disgust for dirty feet, I walked onto the dew-soaked grass and wet dirt and headed for the back of the house. John, please don't have closed the window. Booyah!! The window was open! I pulled the screen out (This is too easy; why haven't we been robbed blind??) and stuck my head in and heard Jack upstairs screaming for me. I yelled for Arwen, but, alas, she is my good sleeper. After managing to get my body in without touching anything with the bottom of my dirty feet, including the couch under the window, I quickly spotted a hand towel and wiped off my feet and raced upstairs.

On a side note, Arwen made it to school dressed and fed, but seemingly late, as it appeared that most of the kids were already gathered around the teacher on the carpet. However, as Eleanor, Jack, and I walked to the car (technically, Jack wasn't walking) I heard the bell ring. As my mother always said when I'd had a bad day, "Tomorrow's another day." Indeed, but tomorrow is Saturday, YAY!!!

Don't you just love those days. And with kids they come way too often.

That's just too funny. You managed to recover that bad situation amazingly well. Way to stay on your toes and think fast!

I was laughing so hard when I was reading this adventure. I have never locked myself out but that is one of my worst fears.

One of my friends was locked out of her car and her toddler was in the car. I would have just broken the window and dealt with the consequences later but she was able to remain calm and call triple a.

You must still have amazing patience. I wish I lived by you!!! I would love to hang out with you again and your absolutely adorable children!!!!!
