That's right folks, you can't hold back the Sperrys. It is cold here. And I mean, COLD! As far as Oregon goes, it is crazy cold for this time of year. It snowed yesterday and nothing has happened today except that it hasn't gotten above 25 degrees Fahrenheit. I know you people in Colorado and Utah will think we're wimps, but seriously, it's cold. But, we've got spirit! In temperatures below 20 degrees today John changed the oil in our car! Why? Because, "It needs it."
Because of the cold snap and the icy roads and the snow, our school district closed the schools. Thus, I have had the pleasure of John's and Arwen's company for two weekdays! Because of John's presence and the threat of worse weather to come in the next few days, I decided to go for a jog. Most of you know that I'm going to run a 5K race with Joleane on New Years Day and I need to be prepared. I'm so new to this jogging thing that I am afraid of not being ready. Thus, when I do run, I try to do over 3.2 miles (5K) just to make sure that I'll be able to. When I started out today I was thinking, 'Wow, New Years Day is going to suck if it's this cold...or colder.' I did manage to scrape out 3.8 miles. But, holy cow, it was so slippery! There were several times that I didn't end up on my butt in spite of starting to and I think Heavenly Father blessed me to avoid any broken bones because I prayed beforehand. The sun has been out all day and there are still many icy patches. At least I got in some exercise before the rest of the bad weather hits town. We've got spirit! (Thanks again, Joleane, for giving me a reason to exercise!)
On a different note, Jack keeps astounding me with his mannerisms. Today I looked up from the dishes to see him in the living room laying on his stomach coloring in a notebook like a ten-year-old. I was quickly brought back to reality when he reminded me that he's only one by pausing in his scribbling to take a bite of the crayon. His other new trick is the word "out." He looks at me and says, "uts." I tried to get him to say it when he wanted out of his high chair, but then today he just said his version of it all by himself. I promptly removed him from his confines and he was happy. Hey, I know what he means, and that's good enough! ;)
Hope you're all staying warm.

Yes. You are a wuss about the cold. :)
I laughed out loud at the thought of Jack taking a bite out of his crayon. He's so cute! Smother him with hugs and kisses for us.
And good luck with that 5k. I admire you for that. I can't get myself to run for anything!
wuss or not, Utah schools don't close for ANYTHING! A school cancellation every and then would have been nice. I loved the unexpected school cancellation growing up. Those are some of the best days ever!
Wow...that is cold for Oregon. It has been cold here too, and I am not a fan at all.
