A Good Day

Last night I was feeling very frustrated. My house has recently come to look like a demilitarized zone. Everyone who knows me knows I'm not the best housekeeper/organizer. Honestly, John is much better at keeping things in check than I am. I am more thorough, but I don't do it often enough to even look clean. So pathetic. There is also an insane amount of laundry piling up, because of both clothes that need to be folded and clothes that need to be washed and folded. On top of that, I had a paper due today that was going to take up plenty of my time, in addition to actually attending class. Unfortunately, this particular class means a babysitter, which also means that my house shouldn't frighten people when they walk in the door. So at the end of the day, yesterday, I was thoroughly overwhelmed and tired. Then, John made a command decision that changed my whole day. He decided to take a personal day and stay home and help me with the kids (Ellie and Jack are grumpy and have colds) and help me clean the house.

So, today after Arwen went to school we went over to Alton Baker Park and John rode his bike past the mall and back while I jogged with Ellie and Jack in the double stroller. I was expecting to not be able to force myself to do anything but walk because I hadn't exercised since last week and I was up till about 2am finishing my paper. (It's true, my most productive hours with homework come when the kids are finally in bed. Unfortunately, this clashes with my desire to sleep at that time of day...or night...or morning.) However, I started jogging and was able to go over two miles without having to walk and I actually felt good. (This is important to me because I've decided to run a 5K (3.2 miles) with Joleane on New Years Day.)

After we got back Arwen came home and John made us all lunch and took me to school. When we got home we did some cleaning and some laundry (he mostly did the cleaning, I mostly did the laundry) and then walked around Wal-Mart deciding in just what color-scheme we wanted to decorate our Christmas tree this year.

The difference? My husband. It's so great that I am happier when he is around. It was a good day.

That sounds like a great day! Great job on running and I'm excited for you about the 5k. I think having a goal when your exercising really helps motivate you to keep pushing yourself.

I love it when Dave stays home during the week too. It does not happen that often, but it sure is nice. And, for some reason so much more gets done then on a Saturday.
