The First Day of the Rest of Her Life

Welcome to school, Arwen!! Arwen's first day of Kindergarten was yesterday, which was a huge step for her Arwen has never been a part of any organization (except church, of course) so she has never had any big structure as part of her life. No preschool, no dance, soccer, or music lessons--nothing. So yesterday was a big deal, for me, that is. The best moment was when we left her in her classroom and she and Ellie gave each other a big hug and kiss. When I picked her up (this is Sarah, by the way, even though John usually blogs for us) there was a little silence as we walked to the car, until I intoned a one word question, "Well??" As if reading my mind and in her most matter-of-fact tone she replied, "It went fine." Yes, that's it. As I probed further and then today after the second day of her new life in school, she truly seemed to enjoy it and spoke of the kids learning to form a line and also the snack that they ate. I guess I can't expect too much from a two and a half hour session. Still, my baby is all grown up!!! Below is Arwen all primped up and dressed for the first day of school showing off her nails and hair.

Hi John & Sarah,

This is Annjeanette (Guerra) Martinez. I found your blog through a fellow Roseburgians. Anyway, just wanted to say hello and tell you what a beautiful family you have! And I understand the whole kindergarten feelings, Sarah, as I sent our second one off to kindergarten this year. Our oldest is in 2nd grade. I keep a pretty updated blog, but it is private. If you'd like to see our family of 4 (can you believe that?!) send me an email: annjeanettem@gmail.com By the way, doesn't it seem forever ago that we were together in a BYU ward? Time flies, doesn't it? Hope to hear from you. Darling, darling kids.

Dear Arwen,
I wish you'd come to my house some day. I like to play with you. I like that you go to school like me. I wish I was bigger so I could read stories to you. I wish we had swords so we can play together and have fun.
Love,
Benny

Wow, Arwen! School already! How fun!

I think the first day of kindergarten is more stressful for the moms than for the kids. We worry over everything and they just play and make new friends.
