One of the more mundane topics of conversation in our family has been the discussion about Sarah's hair. It has been quite sometime since she had gotten a haircut and it reached down to the middle of her back. So as we were walking though the mall the other day I asked her if she wanted a haircut. She lit up and said "really!?" The end result is as follows:
Today we also went to Stewart Park in Roseburg for a 10-year class reunion Picnic for Sarah's High School grad class. It was fun and we got to see some old friendly faces. Sarah got to hang out with good friends like Susie and Bonnie. I got see an old friend and talk for a while. All in all it was a nice time.
Sarah also made a birthday cake for a member of the ward and I was so jealous that we wouldn't be able to eat it ourselves. The cake was Devil's Food with white icing covered in ganache; MMMMMMMMMMMMMM, so yummy. Here's a pic:

Now for my USA men's basketball rant. I've been getting up at the butt-crack of dawn in order to watch these games. I've noticed a few things as I watch my boy Kobe and the rest of the NBA all-stars woop up on the world. First, the facts: in the last four years the USA men's basketball team has left both the Athens Olympics and the world Championships in Japan with the Bronze medal (giving LeBron James the nickname LeBronze). This year the team is destroying its opponents by large margins comparable to the original dream team. The difference? Kobe. Kobe is one of the players playing now that wasn't on the previous two teams. While he isn't lighting it up on the offensive end, he is dominating the worlds best on defense. Kobe is one of the biggest differences. We know that he won't let his team lose. As many at ESPN have said, he has a killer instinct that takes over in dire circumstances that is unparalleled in the NBA (we're talking Michael Jordan is the only one in the same league). Kobe is, in my mind, the difference maker.

Finally, I'm getting ready to buy a bike for the first time in my life. I have never purchased a bike for myself and I haven't ridden a bike since I got my drivers license. Sarah's brother James helped me pick one out and even came down from Corvallis to go with me to Hutch's and test ride one. The bike I decided on was a Giant Tran Send LX. It is a commuter bike that uses narrower tires than a mountain bike but not so narrow as a road bike. It is complete with disc brakes, fenders and a hub mounted rack. I'm going to purchase it on Monday and hopefully it arrives within a week. Here's a stock photo:

Just 1 bike, John? Don't you think life would be better with several? I hear it is..
Can't wait to see the picture of Sarah's haircut. I just went short again last month, after 2 years of ponytails. :)
Cute hair Sarah. Glad you guys had fun at the reunion. We were in town a few days before, but could not stay for the weekend...maybe next time.
The hair looks fabulous, Sarah! John, I'm glad you're getting a bike.
As for the basketball... I agree with you, John... but only because I don't know anything and I trust you completely. :)
Sarah you're looking as 'graceful' as ever... ;) Your kids are gorgeous. Those girls look just like the Sarah I first met like 20 (TWENTY!?!?!? oh my gosh!!!)years ago. Fun to catch up on what you guys are doing!
